The Czech Republic became a full member of the European Union (EU) on 1 May 2004. EU citizens may enter the country with an identity card. Children who have no identity card yet, must present a passport.
Non-EU-citizens can get informed at the following website about entering/visa requirements: http://www.mzv.cz
According to law, Czech stores may accept any major foreign currency. However, most of them take only CZK (Czech Crown, the local abbreviation for it: CZK). There are many money exchange offices which change foreign currency at very good rates. Never change money at dealers in the street.
Unlike in some other countries, Prague hotels don't offer free airport shuttle service to guests. We recommend you the following methods to get to your hotel:
Recommended options
Cheapest: Public Transportation
By bus
Buses and minibuses provide access to the airport; there are minibus pick-up points in front of the Arrivals Hall. Bus no. 119 travels between the airport and Dejvick - the nearest metro station to the airport. Transit takes 20-30 minutes and the ticket is valid for the entire trip to the centre by bus and metro. Chartered coaches also operate to the airport. The 119 runs every 20 - 40 minutes between the hours of 4:00 and 24:00. This trip should take about 30-40 minutes including waiting-time. A low-floor bus no. 100 will take you from Zlicin underground terminus to Ruzyne Airport (and back), just in 13 minutes. The bus is adapted to carry additional baggage. On working days, in the morning and afternoon the bus operates in 15 minute intervals, otherwise the interval is 30 minutes. Before you get on a bus, you have to buy a 12-crown ticket, available from vending machines or news agents.
By minibus You may also use a shuttle service between the airport and the city centre. Minibuses will stop downtown at Namesti Republiky. VW transporter minibuses are for 6 passengers. Price for a single trip is 90 crowns per passenger.

Driving a Car
Car traffic is crazy like in every major European city. While parking, use the guarded car parks. Make sure that the car is locked and do not leave inside any valuable objects that might draw attention. If you have an expensive car (BMW, Mercedes, Rover, etc.), it is safe to park it only in parking houses or guarded parking lot.
In Prague use the services of the suburban car parks called Park and Ride (P+R). If you want to go to the center by car, you will have a lot of difficulties to find a place where to stop and when you find one, it will cost you a lot of money. During the day Prague traffic is very heavy and it takes a long time to get where you want. P+Rs are located very close to the subway stations in the outskirts of Prague. You park your car there, get in the subway and in a few minutes you are in the center. At present such car parks can be found near Skalka, Zlicin, Nove Butovice, Radlicka, Opatov, Rajska zahrada, Cerny Most and Nadrazi Holesovice subway stations. Drivers who use the services of the P+R car parks are provided with an advantageous transfer ticket (20 CZK) or 24-hour ticket (50 CZK), which can only be obtained together with the parking ticket. Tickets used in connection with P+R system are not available in the ordinary distribution network, only from ticket vending machines located at P+Rs, together with a parking ticket (10 CZK).
Restaurants almost always display a copy of their menu at the entrance. Order from the menu only to avoid unexpectedly high meal and drink prices.
